General Library Questions

When is the LRC open?

You can find this information on the LRC Hours web page.

What do I need to check out LRC materials?

If you are a Lambton College student, your official Lambton College photo ID card is also your LRC borrower's card.

If you are a Lambton College employee, your Lambton College staff ID card is also your LRC's borrower's card.

If you are not affiliated with Lambton College, you may apply for a Guest Borrower's card at the LRC's Circulation Desk for a annual fee of $10.00. High school and elementary school students are not entitled to this card.

How many books can I borrow at one time?

Lambton College students and employees may borrow 10 books at one time.

Does the LRC keep copies of the textbooks required for courses?

Student textbooks are sold in the bookstore. The LRC buys other books to supplement your courses. However, some faculty put copies of textbooks on reserve in the LRC. Check the online catalogue to see if your textbook is available, then take the book's call number to the staff at the Circulation Desk.

How long can I keep material that I have borrowed?

Please refer to our Borrowing Services web page for this information.

What if I don't return my LRC materials on time?

Please refer to the Loan periods and overdue charges section of our Borrowing Services web page for this information.

What if I lose LRC material?

Please refer to the Overdue and Lost materials section of our Borrowing Services web page.

Can I renew material that I have borrowed?

No. We do not allow renewals of any items.

What if the book I want is loaned out?

You may ask the Circulation Desk staff to place a reserve on the book. When the book is returned it will be held for you and you will be notified via your Lambton College email account that the book is available.

What if the LRC doesn't have the book or article I need?

My Professor put some books and articles for our class in the LRC. Where can I find them?

Books, articles, course notes, etc., which the Professor wants the entire class to use, are placed "on reserve" behind the Circulation Desk in the LRC.

To obtain these reserve materials, ask the Circulation Desk staff for assistance.

These materials are placed on a Library Use Only loan period by your Professor.

Where is the LRC's after hours book-drop?

The after hours book-drop is located in A hall near the Human Resources Department.

Does the LRC have phones for users to make local calls?

No. Payphones are located outside of the LRC for your use.

Yes, the LRC has several cubicles and 3 rooms available for group study. You can reserve these group study areas at the Circulation Desk.

Does the LRC have photocopiers and how much do copies cost?

Computers and Internet Access

What is my "network drive"?

Where can I find computers for word processing and other computer applications?

All LRC computers have the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, FrontPage, Publisher) loaded.

Finding Information

I need some information for my research project and I don't know where to begin! What should I do?

If you need help finding information or you don't know how to get started on your assignment or project, your first stop should be at the Reference Desk in the LRC. The Reference staff will be VERY happy to give you any assistance that you may require.

You will also find helpful documents on our Research Assistance web page.

How do I find out what books, DVDs/Videos, Government Documents or LRC owned Magazine and Journal Titles are available?

You can find this information by searching our online catalogue.

How do I find articles from journals, magazines and newspapers?

The most efficient way to find articles on a specific subject is to use one of our Research Databases. The LRC subscribes to a number of general and specialized sources, covering a broad spectrum of subject areas.

Ask at the Reference Desk for help in selecting and using the best database for your topic.

Which Research Database should I use to find an article on my topic?

Link to the Research Databases by Subject page. Choose the subject that best fits your information need from the list of subjects on this page and then read the description beside each Database title to help you determine which one or ones you should use.

Remember to ask the LRC staff for assistance during any part of your information gathering process.

I'm not a Lambton College student or employee. Can I access your Research Databases?

If you come into the Library Resource Centre, you will be able to access the Research Databases from the LRC's computers. However, you will not have access to these Databases from off-campus because access is restricted to current students and employees of Lambton College.

Off-Campus Access

How to do I access the Research Databases off-campus?

Lambton College students and employees can access our Research Databases off-campus using their current Lambton College Network Username and Lambton College Permanent Password. Detailed instructions are available on the Research Databases Remote Access/Off-Campus Access Instructions web page.

How can I access my Lambton College email off-campus?
