Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services
Who is eligible
to use the ILL service?
All Lambton
College Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni are eligible to use the LRC's (Library
Resource Centre's) Interlibrary Loan
service.
What can I
borrow?
Books, photocopies of journal articles
and DVDs, CDs and videocassettes can be obtained through Interlibrary
Loan.
The following kinds of materials are not ordinarily obtainable from other libraries:
* Complete issues
of unbound periodicals
* Complete volumes of bound periodicals
* Reference books or rare books
Textbooks for classes are not available from Interlibrary Loan. Textbooks are available for purchase from the Bookstore.
How long will it take?
On average it takes
5 business days to fill an ILL request. However, it can take as little as 3 days or as long as
2 weeks to receive materials, depending on the location and the availability of the item at other libraries.
We cannot guarantee that materials will be received within a specified period of time.
Please submit your requests as early as possible.
How do I request
materials?
Interlibrary Loans may be requested online at any time or in person during regular library
hours. If you have a question about Interlibrary Loans, please contact
the appropriate ILL staff.
Before requesting an Interlibrary Loan item, please make sure
that it is not available in
the LRC by checking the
online catalogue.
How much will
it cost?
Most ILL requests are filled free of charge due to the establishment of reciprocal agreements with other libraries.
If there is a cost involved, the ILL staff will contact you before completing the request to determine
whether you wish to pay the cost.
How will I be
notified?
Users will be
notified when requested materials have arrived in LRC. You may choose to be
notified by email or phone.
How do I get the materials?
You may pick up
your materials in the LRC.
Loan Periods
Loan periods are established by the lending library. In general, loan periods range from two to four weeks.
The due date of materials to be returned, along with any special instructions,
will accompany the material. All Interlibrary Loan items must be
returned by the due date, unless other arrangements have been made with the
ILL staff. Renewals, if permitted, should be requested
at least three
business
days before the
due date.
Overdues
ILL materials must be returned to the
appropriate ILL staff by the date marked on
your borrowed items. Please be aware that returning ILL materials late can jeopardize
the LRC's relationship with other
libraries.
What if I lose or damage material obtained through Interlibrary Loan?
You, the borrower, are financially responsible for any damage to or loss of
Interlibrary Loan materials, from the time you pick them up until you return
them.
If you lose or damage an item, contact the appropriate ILL
staff immediately.
Can I renew Interlibrary Loan materials?
ILL staff can request a renewal of ILL items. The lending library
makes the decision regarding renewals of borrowed materials. The request for renewal must be made in advance of the original due date. If an ILL item is overdue, renewal is not possible.
To request the renewal of an item obtained through ILL, contact the
appropriate ILL staff.
